Does my device need to be unlocked for an alarm clock to work?

No, but for best results we encourage leaving your device open and unlocked while using the night stand mode.
This allows the app to play the sounds regardless of your device settings.
If the device is locked, you will still receive the alarm clock notifications but if your device is set to Do Not Disturb or Silent, the alarm clock sounds may work optimally.
